A Journalist's Little Note : THE MAN OF DAENG SAMBO
Perhaps Daeng Sambo never imagined, a police officer with the rank of a
one-star general with a strategic position as the Head of the Propam Division,
but now he has to languish behind bars for the Head of the Mobile Brigade
Headquarters Prisoners Kelapa Dua. If time could be turned back, of course, I
hope that all of this does not happen, like rice that has turned into porridge,
it will never return to the way it used to be, including the threat of severe
punishment that must be borne.
I don't know what he is thinking right now
because everything he has is wasted, rank, honor, property, luxury and even
family, only time is left. His blank eyes hit the tight walls, in his deepest
heart there were millions of regrets. Imperfection as a human being must take
the lives of his own subordinates upon hearing that his beloved wife has become
a victim of sexual violence.
The police are an institution whose
integrity and credibility are questioned, dozens of police officers are
involved in the case, some of whom are high-achieving officers. Almost every
day the public is fed narratives, as well as various reports that are
increasingly cornering, so that the good image of the Indonesian National
Police that was built since the National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian to
Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo seems to crumble.
Although personally as a journalist, I am
also angry with the actions of Daeng Sambo (Sulawesi's nickname in overseas)
who carried out the premeditated murder of his bodyguard, Brigadier Joshua.
However, one must still look at it objectively and independently, considering
that after all, Daeng Sambo is only an ordinary human being who can make
mistakes, especially regarding the dignity of his family that has been
humiliated.
There is an old saying that says "It
is better to die under the ground, than to live in shame" especially for
certain people who were born outside Java, of course it is still very strong.
While the saddest thing is that both perpetrators and victims are children of
God who are Christians who ideally can forgive mistakes made by anyone without
having to judge each other. ( 01/NM/Ezekiel Suyoto)
